We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.

We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.

We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!

Key Overview:
As a Member of Technical Staff in Post-Training, you will train our large language models (LLMs) with reinforcement learning and develop methods that help them generalize beyond the distribution they were trained on. You will design the training recipes, environments, and evaluations that tell us whether a model has truly learned a skill or has only fitted its training tasks, and turn what works into the recipes behind our production models. You will work closely with the post-training data infrastructure, evaluation, and pre-training teams.

Key Responsibilities

 - Design, run, and analyse large-scale RL post-training experiments (e.g., RLHF, RL from verifiable rewards).

 - Research and develop methods that improve out-of-distribution generalization, such as reward design, environment and task diversity, curricula, and regularization.

 - Build held-out evaluations that measure generalization to unseen tasks, domains, and formats, and that catch reward hacking and benchmark overfitting.

 - Diagnose training dynamics and failure modes, including instability, reward over-optimization, and capability regressions.

 - Turn successful research into robust, reproducible training recipes for production models.

Qualifications

 - Strong research and software engineering skills, with hands-on experience training LLMs.

 - Experience applying reinforcement learning to LLMs (e.g., PPO, GRPO, RLHF, RLVR), ideally at scale.

 - Track record of work on generalization, robustness, or distribution shift, through publications or shipped models.

 - Rigorous experimental practice: clean ablations, careful controls, and sound conclusions from noisy results.

 - Experience with distributed training (e.g., JAX, PyTorch, FSDP, Megatron) is a plus.

 - Excellent communication skills.

 - Deep understanding of data quality principles and best practices: demonstrates willingness to dive deep into data while possessing strong intuition for assessing the quality of datasets and anticipating how different data characteristics will impact model training outcomes.

The expected level will vary depending on the seniority of the role.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p></div><p>AI Care Operations (previously Sword Intelligence), is Sword's AI care management division. We don't deliver a clinical program to members. We deploy AI Care Managers, trained on more than 14 million real care interactions, to run the operations of providers, payers and national health systems.</p> <p>It started as an internal problem. On the way to freeing over a million people from pain, Sword hit the same wall every healthcare organization does: we didn't have enough hands to scale the care we needed to provide. Instead of hiring our way out, we built AI to do it, certified it for clinical use, and ran it in our own operations before offering it to anyone else.</p> <p>Today we sell two families of solutions:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Triage</strong> — a certified Clinical Triage Line that guides every patient to the right care, 24/7, across voice and digital channels.</li> <li><strong>Care Orchestration</strong> — care navigation, population health campaigns (screenings, vaccinations, medication adherence), surgery prehab and rehab, and readmission prevention.</li> </ul> <p>We've announced a partnership with the Hellenic Ministry of Health to build an AI-powered front door for Greece's 10 million citizens, and we work with other national health systems, health plans and providers across the US and Europe. The US is now our biggest growth opportunity, and this role is central to capturing it.</p> <h2>The role</h2> <p>We are hiring a Head of Go-to-Market for AI Care Operations in the US. The role sits at the intersection of product marketing, competitive intelligence and commercial enablement. It is one of the leadership roles on the AI Care Operations team, reporting to the General Manager.</p> <p>Here's the opportunity. "AI agents for healthcare" is one of the most crowded categories in the market right now. Voice AI startups, EHR vendors, care management platforms and outsourcers all claim to automate care operations, and to a buyer they can sound alike. Very few of them have certified medical devices, national-scale partnerships, or AI proven on hundreds of thousands of their own members before it was sold to anyone else. We have all three. Your job is to make that difference unmistakable.</p> <p>You will own three things:</p> <ol> <li><strong>Make our value impossible to miss.</strong> Build the narrative, positioning and competitive differentiation that make it obvious why AI Care Operations is categorically better than AI point solutions, legacy nurse lines and call centers, and the care management platforms buyers already have. That means the core messaging architecture across Triage and Care Orchestration, positioning by buyer (health plan, health system, value-based care, employer, government), battle cards, ROI frameworks, and the demos and proof that move a skeptical COO or VP of Care Management.</li> <li><strong>Make sure the commercial team can tell that story.</strong> Sword's segment sales teams sell many solutions and can't be experts in all of them. When the health plan team is in front of a Medicare Advantage plan, or the employer team is pitching a front door for a self-insured population, they come to you to scope the workflows, walk the buyer through how the agents actually work, and answer the hard questions on safety, integration and ROI.</li> <li><strong>Find, surface and pursue the opportunities.</strong> You will canvass the US and international markets systematically for the accounts, RFPs, procurements, contract renewals and budget signals that would otherwise go unnoticed: a health plan rebuilding its care management operation, a health system under readmission penalties, a state agency tendering a nurse line. You'll use AI tooling to do this faster and wider than a traditional GTM team could, then partner with the relevant segment leader to make sure each opportunity is pursued and won.</li> </ol> <h2>AI proficiency at Sword</h2> <p>AI fluency is a core expectation at Sword, and every candidate is assessed against our three-level framework: Explorer (uses AI daily for personal productivity), Builder (creates workflows and tools that lift the whole team) and Integrator (embeds AI into products and processes at scale). This role requires Builder at minimum. Come ready with real examples.</p> <h2>What you'll be doing</h2> <ul> <li>Core positioning, messaging house and narrative architecture for AI Care Operations and each of its solutions</li> <li>The category story: why AI care management that does the work beats both headcount and AI tools that only assist the people doing it</li> <li>Competitive intelligence and battle cards across voice AI and agentic AI vendors, nurse line and call center outsourcers, and care management platforms</li> <li>Buyer-facing materials: one-pagers, ROI and capacity calculators, demo scripts and recorded agent calls, case studies, RFP response library, sales decks</li> <li>Proof architecture: turning deployments into case studies and outcome metrics (contacts handled, cost per interaction, gap closure, time to care, readmissions) that a CFO will sign off on</li> <li>Solution specialist team (direct reports), paired with segment sales reps across health plans, health systems, value-based care, employers and government</li> <li>Sales and customer success enablement: training, playbooks, discovery guides, certification on each solution</li> <li>Market opportunity mapping and systematic canvassing across US segments, with a lighter watch on international tenders</li> <li>Message consistency across Sword's commercial segments and geographies, including where AI Care Operations is sold as part of the broader AI Care platform</li> <li>Voice of the market into product: what buyers ask for, where we lose, and what competitors are shipping</li> </ul> <h2>We'd love to see</h2> <p>You are currently at, or recently from, a Lead, Head, Director or VP-level GTM or product marketing role where you owned the full stack: launching products, positioning, competitive differentiation, sales enablement and market strategy. You've built things that measurably changed how deals were won.</p> <p>You can sell something that isn't a product category yet. AI Care Operations is bought by operations leaders, not benefits leaders, and it competes with a budget line (headcount, outsourcing) as much as with other vendors. You know how to make the case that replacing work is different from adding a tool, and you can tell a clean story across several solutions without it sounding like a platform pitch that means nothing.</p> <p>You think in first principles. Faced with a new buyer, your instinct is to ask what operational problem they actually have, why our agents solve it better than more staff or another vendor, and what evidence would make a skeptical COO believe it. You don't reach for a template.</p> <p>You are genuinely AI-fluent, not performatively. You've built your own workflows and loops with AI tools for market intelligence, opportunity canvassing and competitive research. Head of Go-to-Market, AI Care Operations

About Toptal
Toptal is a global network of top talent in business, design, and technology that enables companies to scale their teams, on-demand. With $200+ million in annual revenue and team members based around the globe, Toptal is the world’s largest fully remote workforce.
We take the best elements of virtual teams and combine them with a support structure that encourages innovation, social interaction, and fun. We see no borders, move at a fast pace, and are never afraid to break the mold.
Position Description:
As SVP, Product, you will shape the vision as to where Toptal’s products and platforms go next and then drive the execution to build them. This is the most senior product role in the company. You will report to the Chief Executive Officer, sit on the executive team, and work collaboratively with our Engineering, Design, Finance, Marketing, New Businesses, Professional Services, and Customer leaders. AI is not a line item on your roadmap. It is the roadmap.
You should be Toptal’s foremost expert on what AI means for products and platforms. That means real depth in fine-tuning and post-training, agent design and evaluation, and the economics of running models in production, along with the judgment to know which applies to us. Work directly with our AI researchers rather than through them. We expect both the AI agenda and the product strategy to originate with you. We will react to your plan rather than hand you ours.
This is a hands-on role. You will write your own specs and pull your own data. When you think an agent could take over a piece of work, you will build a rough version and find out whether it holds up before anyone budgets for it. You will sit in product reviews and say what you actually think. We move fast, and we need Product setting the pace. You will own and set the standards for the hiring bar for the product team, bringing in talent that will advance Toptal to the next level.
Your remit runs across the business: the core platform, the talent and client experiences, the internal systems that run it, the products we take to market, and the data and AI platform underneath them. You will work hand in hand with Engineering on the platform all of it runs on, fold acquisitions and new products into the portfolio, and know growth marketing cold, because how a product reaches the market is part of building it.
Product is yours to shape at blazing speed: scoping, sizing the teams, planning headcount, and defining the role and the bar for every seat. None of that is beneath the role, and we are not interested in someone who thinks these tasks can be done properly by handing them off to HR. Hiring is the highest-leverage work you do, and we want someone who is visibly excited about landing an A player and treats an open seat as urgent. Your own dedication and hard work will set the tone, and the people you bring in should be inspired to do the best work of their careers on this team. We are looking for the person who will define what an AI-native product organization looks like and then run it successfully.
This is a remote position. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.
Responsibilities:
The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills.
AI and agentic product
Own Toptal’s AI product strategy: where agents and models belong across the marketplace, the talent and client experiences, our internal systems, and the products we take to market, along with the business outcomes they carry.
Decide what we build with AI and what we do not, including build-versus-buy on models and tooling and the packaging and pricing of AI-enabled products.
Make AI quality measurable through evals, acceptance bars, and review loops, and partner with Engineering on the platform as its most demanding customer.
Rebuild how Product works using AI, raising the output and judgment of every product manager through AI-assisted discovery, research, prototyping, and analysis. Product managers have to want this rather than comply with it, and creating that pull is on you.
Portfolio and operating model
Own the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for the whole portfolio: what we build, what we sunset, and how investment is distributed across growth, platform, and operational leverage.
Establish the product operating model and the metrics behind it, so decisions are made on evidence and user research rather than opinion.
Own the product integration of acquisitions and new products, and act as a senior voice of the customer for both talent and clients.
Team and accountability
Decide what a product team should look like now that the roles have blurred, where the product manager believes they can design and code, the engineer believes they can do product and design, and the designer believes they can code and do product.
Own resourcing and workforce planning, and hit time-sensitive hiring commitments.
Review the product work directly, develop people against a clear bar, and raise it as the organization grows.
In the first week, expect to:
Work to get up to speed with how the organization runs, including how our operational frameworks work.
Begin building relationships with the CEO, the executive team, and your direct reports.
Begin learning Toptal’s platform architecture, marketplace dynamics, internal tooling, and current AI initiatives and capabilities.
In the first month, expect to:
Assess the current state of the Product organization and its AI maturity: its people, its roadmap, its rituals, and where the gaps are, including the team against the bar this role requires.
Bring the executive team a product strategy no one asked you for.
Become acquainted with the full product portfolio, the company’s goals, and those you will partner with.
Establish a shared view with the CEO and the executive team of the company’s priorities and how product supports them.
Start collaborating closely with your product teams.
In the first three months, expect to:
Own the product portfolio, its strategy, and its roadmap, and be executing your own plan with at least one AI-enabled capability already in production and measured.
Present your resourcing plan and a clear point of view to the executive team on where product investment should concentrate, what should be deprioritized, and why.
Establish or refine the product operating model: planning cadence, prioritization framework, and the metrics the organization will be held to, with the trust of the peers and teams you work with most closely.
In the first six months, expect to:
Show business impact from AI-enabled products in at least two core surfaces, with the evidence behind it, and visible progress against the top portfolio priorities measured against the metrics you defined.
Have the right leadership team in place, with a clear plan to close any remaining gaps.
Be inspiring and mentoring the teams you work with, upleveling how the organization brainstorms, collaborates, and executes, and charting a clear path for scaling Product’s impact.
In the first year, expect to:
Run a product organization recognized inside and outside Toptal as one of the most advanced in the industry, with AI leverage embedded in the portfolio and the operating model rather than living in a set of pilots.
Have built an exceptional product team doing the best work of their careers, with a record of building impactful products in a timely and elegant fashion.
Deliver on your roadmap priorities and promises, with a demonstrable link between product investment and business results, and Product established as a trusted, high-leverage function that the rest of the company plans around.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in a technical discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems). Masters is strongly preferred.
At least 15 years of proven software Product Management experience.
At least 8 years of experience leading Product organizations, including experience leading other product leaders (managing managers).
Proven ability to raise the level of a product organization through the people you hire and develop.
Proven ownership of resourcing and workforce planning, with a hiring track record you can quantify. You have made the hard calls when someone was not clearing the bar.
Experience owning an entire product portfolio at a high-growth technology company, with accountability for business outcomes and not solely delivery.
Demonstrated success setting product strategy at the executive level and translating it into an executable roadmap across multiple teams and domains.
Experience leading AI-enabled products, with a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
Deep, hands-on command of modern AI as a product discipline: agentic architectures, harness and orchestration design, retrieval, context engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation, along with the economics of running models in production. You have shipped these yourself.
Further ahead on AI than the executives around you, able to teach it, and proven at moving an organization to adopt something it was not asking for.
Growth marketing fluency. You understand acquisition, activation, conversion, and retention well enough to build for them.
Experience with marketplace, platform, or two-sided business models is a strong plus.
Prior experience working as a Software Engineer is a strong plus.
Comfortable working with SQL or spreadsheets to analyze data, as well as conducting research with internal and external users.
Ability to creatively craft solutions through data and a user-centric approach.
Be meticulous and have a high bar for quality when writing user stories, brainstorming technical approaches, and testing a feature before it is released.
Be humble, willing to learn, and do whatever is needed to help us accomplish our goals.

Job Summary:
Toptal is looking for a Marketing Analyst to build and own the marketing data infrastructure to support new businesses and companies we acquire through M&A. The role is part of our Business Analytics Center of Excellence, where analysts are assigned to support one or more business functions. You will track paid advertising performance and translate it into metrics such as LTV and ROAS that inform budget allocation and channel strategy, from structuring the underlying data pipelines to developing the reports that help marketing and business leaders make data-driven decisions.
Are you passionate about bringing rigor to how early-stage businesses measure and optimize acquisition spend from day one? If so, we encourage you to apply! This person will define the metrics that matter, measure channel and campaign performance, and develop reports that drive decisions. They will also build models, forecast outcomes, run experiments, and perform in-depth diagnostic analysis.
Ultimate success goes beyond data-related activities, you’ll be delivering the “so what” that drives decisions and real business impact. It is imperative to fully understand each business (processes, objectives, organization, performance drivers, barriers), and connect the dots between paid acquisition data, marketing strategy, and financial and operational effectiveness. This role partners closely with the Business Analyst, New Businesses and the Senior Business Analyst focused on acquisitions, ensuring marketing performance insights are integrated with the broader business and revenue picture. We expect that we not only answer the question asked, but also the question that was not.
This Marketing Analyst needs to build positive relationships across the organization, manage diverse stakeholders with competing and often conflicting priorities, and have a “find a way” attitude.
This is a remote position. We do not offer visa sponsorship or assistance. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.
Responsibilities:
The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills.
Analyze data, build models, test hypotheses, find root causes, develop prototypes, forecast performance, create Tableau reports, and write SQL scripts; and extract insights from these data activities to inform marketing decisions.
Build, own, and maintain the marketing data infrastructure, from ad impression and click through lead acquisition to revenue, setting up and integrating Google Analytics, Google Ads, and other paid advertising platforms as required.
Rapidly assess and integrate the marketing data of newly acquired (M&A) companies, establishing tracking, attribution, and reporting so their acquisition spend is measured with the same rigor as the rest of Toptal.
Measure and diagnose paid advertising performance across channels and businesses—analyzing spend efficiency, CAC, funnel conversion, lead value, ROAS, and LTV—to guide budget allocation and channel strategy.
Define metrics that are independent, holistic, accurate, encourage the right behaviors, and are aligned with company strategy and objectives, including consistent definitions of LTV, ROAS, and payback across businesses.
Use descriptive (what happened) and diagnostic (why did it happen) analytics to develop specific, actionable recommendations for marketing leaders and business owners.
Partner closely with the Business Analyst, New Businesses and the Senior Business Analyst focused on acquisitions to connect marketing performance with revenue, unit economics, and the broader business picture.
Map marketing processes and channel journeys to their corresponding data flows across acquisition, engagement, and revenue generation.
Proactively identify and surface opportunities to improve efficiency, conversion, revenue generation, client and talent experience, operations, communication, systems & tools, cash usage, etc.
Leverage Generative AI tools to accelerate analysis and automate reporting workflows.
In the first week, expect to:
Onboard and integrate into Toptal, quickly learning about Toptal’s history, culture, and vision.
Shadow key teams to learn the core of each new business and its paid acquisition channels.
In the first month, expect to:
Understand the marketing data generated and where/how it is stored, especially as it relates to the Business Analytics team.
Obtain a basic understanding of each business’s paid advertising channels, spend, and operations.
Assess the current state of tracking, attribution, performance metrics, reports, dashboards, and models in use, and identify gaps and discrepancies.
Begin supporting business leaders with relevant paid performance insights and reports for leadership meetings.
In the first three months, expect to:
Develop proficiency in the marketing data elements of each business and obtain a robust understanding of the paid acquisition funnel from ad spend to revenue.
Deliver a first version of the marketing data infrastructure and ROAS/LTV reporting for the new businesses, and gain the ability to assess the drivers and impacts of marketing decisions on financial performance.
Begin identifying new opportunities to explore in the quest to improve performance continually while exercising discretion and independent judgment.
In the first six months, expect to:
Begin to solve real business problems as a team that will move the needle on key marketing performance metrics and financial performance.
Help us align and standardize LTV, ROAS, and other metric definitions across the new businesses and the company.
Perform detailed root cause analysis to expose critical drivers of channel performance, and stand up a repeatable playbook for onboarding the marketing data of newly acquired companies.
In the first year, expect to:
Inform significant strategic initiatives, goals, priorities, and performance indicators, including budget allocation and channel strategy for the new businesses.
Become an expert both on marketing process and data flow, and help build an outstanding marketing analytics function for new businesses and M&A.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree is required.
3+ years of experience in data analysis, analytics, or business intelligence is required, with a focus on marketing analytics.

Track record of linking data and analytics to marketing strategy, financial performance, and operations to drive real impact.
Working knowledge of probability and statistics, experience with process improvement is a plus.
Experience in a startup, early-stage business, or M&A integration environment is a plus.
Proven ability to manage diverse stakeholders and balance multiple, conflicting priorities in a fast-moving environment.
Ability to explain complex issues simply and intuitively, and willingness to challenge assumptions, communicate limitations, and flag blind spots.
The ideal candidate needs to have a strong technical background particularly when it comes to marketing data infrastructure and Google products (Google Analytics, Google Ads) while having the ability to master marketing processes of diverse nature.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a diverse array of contacts.
You must be a world-class individual contributor to thrive at Toptal. You will not be here just to tell other people what to do.

We take the best elements of virtual teams and combine them with a support structure that encourages innovation, social interaction, and fun. We see no borders, move at a fast pace, and are never afraid to break the mold.
Job Summary:
As an Enterprise Sales Executive at Toptal, you will be a key driver of growth within our AI Solutions business. In this role, you will identify, develop, and close opportunities with enterprise clients by helping them solve complex business challenges through forward-deployed AI solutions, AI software and platforms, AI services, and AI-enabled transformation.
You will develop tailored solutions that help clients move from AI strategy and experimentation into production, combining Toptal’s capabilities across AI Strategy & Transformation, Agentic Solutions, Data Services, AI Platforms, Industry Solutions, Joint Partner Solutions, and Managed Services to achieve measurable business outcomes.
This role is designed for true hunters who thrive in a high-performance, client-facing environment. It is ideal for individuals who have successfully sold enterprise AI solutions and are passionate about building a book of business from the ground up, forging executive relationships, and creating long-term client value. Success in this role is measured by your ability to convert new enterprise relationships into durable revenue and establish Toptal as a core AI services provider embedded in your clients’ most critical initiatives.
Enterprise AI has shifted rapidly from experimentation to execution. Companies are investing in models, agents, AI platforms, data infrastructure, and AI-enabled applications, but many are struggling to translate those investments into production systems and measurable business outcomes.
The challenge is no longer simply selecting an AI model or platform. Enterprises must identify the right workflows, connect AI to their proprietary data and knowledge, integrate existing systems, build and deploy agents and applications, establish evaluation and control frameworks, drive adoption, and continuously operate and improve AI in production.
Toptal brings together world-class AI and domain talent, forward-deployed solution delivery, AI platforms and capabilities, strategic technology partners, expert-in-the-loop operations, and managed services to help enterprises move from AI promise to production.
This role exists to convert that market opportunity into new enterprise relationships and position Toptal as a strategic partner for companies deploying AI across their organizations.
This is a remote position with significant client-facing fieldwork across the US. Applicants who reside within commutable distance of a major metropolitan area are strongly preferred. We do not offer visa sponsorship or assistance. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.

*The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills.
You will be responsible for building a targeted portfolio of accounts via identifying, prioritizing, and developing your own book of business rather than inheriting an existing one. Once you have signed net new customers, you will partner with Client Partners to deepen and expand those strategic relationships over time.
Net new accounts may begin with a specific AI initiative, workflow, platform implementation, or business problem requiring a disciplined approach to defining the opportunity and matching the right Toptal capabilities to the client’s needs. As relationships mature, accounts become more complex, with deeper engagement across multiple business units, workflows, technology platforms, and senior executive relationships.
These accounts demand a highly consultative, strategic approach that includes navigating cross-functional priorities, understanding the client’s AI and technology environment, aligning solutions to evolving business objectives, and demonstrating credibility at the C-suite level. Success will require the ability to adapt your engagement style to the maturity and complexity of each account while consistently driving measurable client value and long-term growth.
Own and build a portfolio of enterprise AI accounts, with direct accountability for new logo acquisition, revenue growth, and client outcomes.
Prospect, pitch, negotiate, and close new opportunities in close partnership with our Sales Development Representatives (SDRs), while expanding the relationships you establish.

Collaborate with Pursuits and Delivery teams to understand how we design AI engagements.
In the first three months, expect to:
Exercise discretion and independent judgment in the negotiation of contracts, work collaboratively with clients, and help them engage with Toptal’s AI capabilities and specialists.
Begin shaping AI solutions that resonate with your target accounts, including forward-deployed AI solutions, Outcome Agents, agentic workflows, enterprise data and knowledge solutions, AI platforms, and managed AI services, demonstrating your comfort and ability in working with ambiguity and directly innovating alongside your clients.

As Chief Technology Officer, you will drive execution for the product and engineering teams and put AI at the core of everything the company builds. You will own Toptal’s full technical architecture and you will build it AI-first—utilizing best practices for agentic engineering. AI is not a workstream inside the engineer team—its core to it.
You will create and own the AI architecture and best practices the rest of the company utilizes. You will also own the initiatives that put agents into production. You should know how to build and fine-tune foundation models from the ground up, how to engineer best-in-class harnesses, and how to create best practices for agentic engineering that engineering teams adopt to 10x their productivity—without sacrificing quality. Your mindset will be that of a builder and an architect, someone who solves problems in the system itself. No problem will be too large or too small for you to solve yourself. You will set the technical direction and hold the cadenced meetings that turns technical strategy into working, production-ready outcomes. You will be in the design reviews and in the code, not adjacent to them. You will move fast, and you will ensure our engineering team is never the reason an initiative slows down.
You are the technical owner of all Toptal’s products. You will collaborate closely with Product to design infrastructure that exposes Toptal’s core business logic through modular interfaces the rest of the business can build on. Alongside a group of hands-on executives, your engineering discipline directly shapes Toptal’s growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
You will own resourcing and workforce planning as a doer: scoping the work, sizing the teams, planning headcount against it, defining the role and the bar for every seat. None of that is beneath the role, and we are not interested in someone who thinks these tasks can be done properly by handing it off to HR. Hiring is the highest-leverage work you do, and we want someone who is visibly excited about hiring A-players—with a sense of urgency.
Then, you lead the team. You will set the standards, develop people against those standards, and know exactly who is meeting those standards.
You will be one of Toptal’s foremost experts on AI, and you will stay ahead of a field that never stops moving. You will coach engineers on agentic best practices, show the executive team what is newly possible with the new AI tooling, and push AI into every function at Toptal.
This role runs on high-energy execution and attention to detail. You will bring urgency to every part of it and measure yourself on outcomes. We are not looking for someone to oversee this work. We are looking for someone to drive it and get into the details.
This is a remote position. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.
Responsibilities:
The following information is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or required skills.
One precondition runs through all of it: you conceive the strategy. You will form your own view of where engineering and AI should go, build the case, and bring the CEO a strategy to react to, not a request for direction.
AI and agentic engineering
Own Toptal’s AI technology strategy and the architecture beneath it: model selection and fine-tuning, harness design, orchestration, retrieval, context engineering, tool and MCP integration, guardrails, evaluation, and cost control, exposed as primitives every team composes against.
Deploy agentic engineering at scale against the work that runs this business: matching, vetting, onboarding, delivery, and internal operations. Own the outcomes those agents are accountable for.
Make AI quality measurable. Own the evals, the regression suites, and the review loops, so quality here is proven rather than claimed.
Rebuild how the platform gets built and operated, raising output per engineer through AI-assisted development, review, testing, and operations. Engineers have to want this, not comply with it, and creating that pull is on you.
Team, resourcing, and accountability
Decide what a team should look like now that the roles have blurred, where the product manager believes they can design and code, the engineer believes they can do product and design, and the designer believes they can code and do product.
Own resourcing and workforce planning: scope the roadmap into buildable work, plan headcount and sequence, write the specs, and hit time-sensitive hiring commitments.
Own the bar for the team: assess talent honestly, develop people against the bar, and hold it as the organization grows.
Platform and execution
Own the architecture end to end, from services and data flows to interfaces and system boundaries, and hold the standards that keep it coherent as it grows.
Own throughput, reliability, and the platform layer beneath them, including the AI-dependent paths where latency, drift, and provider outages are real failure modes. Own build-versus-buy, technical debt, secure-by-design architecture, responsible AI, and the engineering and AI cost structure down to inference and token spend.
In the first week, expect to:
Learn Toptal’s model and platform architecture, and meet the leaders you will depend on across Engineering, Product, Industries, and Services.
Establish a direct, working rhythm with the CEO.
In the first month, expect to:
Assess the engineering function honestly, and assess AI maturity with it: what is really in production, what is measured, what is duplicated, and what should be shut down.
Assess the team against the bar this role requires, and bring the executive team a strategy no one asked you for.
In the first three months, expect to:
Be executing your own plan, with a review cadence and clear accountability at every level, and your resourcing plan presented.
Stand up the shared AI architecture and evals, and put one agentic workflow into production with a baseline and a measured result.
In the first six months, expect to:
Show business impact from agents in production in at least two core workflows, with the evidence behind it.
Have the leadership team you need, with the bar visibly raised, and throughput and reliability moving on the paths that matter most.
In the first year, expect to:
Run an engineering organization recognized inside and outside Toptal as one of the most advanced in the industry, with the pull on AI now coming from engineering.
Have AI leverage embedded in the architecture and the operating model, not living in a portfolio of pilots, and the team you built delivering against plan.
Qualifications and Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required, and an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
15+ years of progressive engineering leadership, including significant time as a CTO or VP of Engineering, or as a direct report to one at meaningful scale.
Deep, current, hands-on command of modern AI engineering: foundation models, agentic architectures, harness design, retrieval, context engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation. You have shipped and operated these in production, and you know how to build and fine-tune foundation models from the ground up.
Agentic systems deployed at scale against real business processes, with measured outcomes on cost, cycle time, quality, or revenue, and a record of retiring what did not work.
Rigor about evaluation. You can explain precisely how you knew a model, prompt, or agent change was an improvement, and you can show the evidence.
Command of the economics underneath it: model routing, hosted versus self-hosted, inference capacity, latency and cost budgets, and staying portable across providers.
Further ahead on AI than the executives around you, able to teach it, and proven at moving an organization to adopt something it was not asking for.
You create strategy rather than administer it, and you win arguments on evidence rather than authority, including your view on what a team should look like in the age of AI.
Proven ownership of resourcing and workforce planning, and a hiring track record you can quantify. You have made the hard calls when someone was not clearing the bar.
Currently hands-on. You read and write code, you can take apart a design document or an eval harness and find the flaw in it, and you command distributed systems, service architecture, data-intensive applications, and cloud infrastructure at scale.
Experience scaling and modernizing a large existing codebase without stopping the business. You have replaced load-bearing systems in flight, not only built greenfield.
Experience leading a globally distributed, remote team at a technology or hyper-growth company is required. A high-volume, two-sided marketplace or multi-tenant platform is a significant plus.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
Speed, ownership, and quality. You move with urgency, decide without perfect information, and treat everything you deliver as a reflection of yourself.
You must be a world-class individual contributor to thrive at Toptal. You will not be here just to tell other people what to do.

ABOUT RESEND

We are building the modern email sending platform for developers. We care deeply about quality, craft, and the developer experience.

Platform Engineer

Resend is growing fast, and there are now over 4 million developers using it. We’re building tools that make email better for developers. We care about dependable infrastructure, thoughtful design, and the experience of everyone building with our products.

In this role you'll build the anti-abuse systems that keep Resend open for good senders and closed to bad actors: real-time enforcement on every email, detection pipelines that scale with the platform, and automations that go from detection to action without waiting on a human.

This role is fully remote based in Americas or European timezones, with some expected travel for team offsites, conferences, meetups, and more.

Read more about how we work, how we hire, and what we value here https://resend.com/handbook.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL…

 - Build and run the real-time enforcement layer within a latency budget of milliseconds

 - Design pipelines that move from signal to decision to action, across sending, receiving and account activity

 - Build the detection rules and policies that decide when we act, and make them safe to change

 - Detect and contain account takeover and leaked API keys: notice when a trusted account stops acting like itself, and stop the damage without locking out the real owner

 - Close the feedback loop: every block and every reversal carries a reason, so we can measure each detection's precision and retire the ones that hurt good senders

 - Automate manual work such as investigations, appeals and bulk actions, so the team keeps up as volume grows

 - Build and evaluate ML classifiers for spam and phishing, and prove their precision before they enforce anything

 - Implement safeguards and make every action traceable through logs, metrics and audit trails

 - Ensure all enforcement actions are traceable with logs, metrics, and audit trails

YOU’LL BE A GREAT FIT IF YOU…

 - Bring 5+ years of software engineering experience

 - Are fluent in writing and speaking English

 - Have deep experience with Node.js, TypeScript, React (Hono, Next.js)

 - Write Go, or want to, for latency-sensitive services

 - Have infrastructure and reliability skills (AWS, CDK, Datadog)

 - Are comfortable with APIs, event-driven architectures, queues and stateful services

 - Design systems that fail safe, and treat a false positive as a bug

 - Care deeply about observability: metrics, logs, tracing, error handling

 - Take ownership across the stack, from frontend surfaces down to databases and queues

 - Have proven experience with databases (Postgres, Redis)

YOU WILL BE AN EXCEPTIONAL FIT IF YOU ALSO...

 - Have worked in trust and safety, fraud or security

 - Have built real-time enforcement such as rate limiting, or a rules engine on a policy language like CEL

 - Have shipped ML or LLM-based detection in production, and know how to measure its precision and recall

 - Know email: SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounces, complaints, and how phishing campaigns work

 - Have knowledge of database performance tuning (Postgres, Redis)

WHAT IT MEANS TO JOIN THE TEAM:

 - Room to shape technical decisions and take projects from discovery through production

 - Work remotely with teammates around the world

 - Close collaboration with the developers who use what you build

 - Teammates who value thoughtful feedback, shared learning, and care for each other

 - A high bar for product quality, reliability, and the details that make software enjoyable to use

 - Comp: $150,000 - $175,000 USD, commensurate with location and experience

Security Engineer, Platform

At Linear, we're building the product development system for teams and agents. AI is fundamentally changing how software gets built, and we’re shaping the tools this new era requires.

Founded in 2019, Linear has become the platform of choice for more than 40,000 companies (including OpenAI, Coinbase, and Ramp) to plan, build, and ship their products. Today, our team is distributed across North America, Europe, and Australia, and we’re continuing to grow internationally. What unites us is relentless focus, fast execution, and a deep care for software craftsmanship.

We’re looking for a Designer with strong visual taste to help scale Linear’s creative work across web, brand, and marketing. You’ll create polished, high-quality designs across a wide range of surfaces — from landing pages and ad campaigns to sales decks and launch materials — helping bring Linear’s visual language to life everywhere people experience our brand.

When it comes to design, we’re looking to work with people who can pick up any problem and solve it. For us, it’s both how it works and how it looks. At its core, Linear is a developer tool where speed, interactions, and small details matter. - Partner with the Magic Team to extend and scale Linear’s visual language across new campaigns and creative surfaces

 - Collaborate with designers, developers, and copywriters to create cohesive marketing experiences across web, social, and brand

What we're looking for

 - Around 2+ years of experience designing for web, marketing, or brand.

 - Excellent visual, UI, motion and interactive design skills

 - Eye for good design, attention to detail, and a genuine love for the craft

What we offer

We're a small, focused team that cares deeply about the quality of our work and the people we do it with. Here's what you can expect:

 - Competitive salary and equity

 - Employee-friendly equity terms including early exercise in the US and extended exercise windows

 - Daily meal and coffee stipend on every workday

 - Paid co-working space or desk

 - Health coverage (based on country requirements)

Product Support Specialist, Europe

At Linear, we're building the product development system for teams and agents. AI is fundamentally changing how software gets built, and we’re shaping the tools this new era requires.

Founded in 2019, Linear has become the platform of choice for more than 40,000 companies (including OpenAI, Coinbase, and Ramp) to plan, build, and ship their products. Today, our team is distributed across North America, Europe, and Australia, and we’re continuing to grow internationally. What unites us is relentless focus, fast execution, and a deep care for software craftsmanship.

Linear is becoming a much broader product than people realize. With agents, mobile workflows, and new modalities, there’s a growing gap between what Linear can do and what people think it can do. This role exists to close that gap.

We’re looking for someone who will live inside the product, discover what’s possible, and show the world. That means figuring out the most compelling use cases for Linear’s AI agent, demonstrating real workflows that teams can adopt, and getting those stories out through whatever format works best, whether that’s a tweet, a video, a blog post, or a live demo at a conference. The goal is to help people understand what they can actually do with Linear and make that feel concrete and exciting.

Think of it as a product-obsessed marketer who is genuinely technical and knows how to communicate with depth.

Location & work mode

Linear is a remote-first company, with optional co-working offices in San Francisco, New York, and London. This role is open to candidates based in the US and Europe. You can work from anywhere within those regions. We value deep focus and async collaboration, with intentional moments to connect in person through team off-sites, optional co-working, and occasional travel.

What you’ll do

 - Deeply understand Linear’s product, especially our AI agent and newer capabilities, and continuously discover productive, real-world use cases that teams would care about

 - Create content that demonstrates those use cases, whether that’s short-form social, blog posts, video walkthroughs, or live demos. Format follows the story, not the other way around

 - Build relationships with engineering and product-focused creators and collaborate on content that feels authentic rather than sponsored

 - Work with our video team to produce technical product content that comes across with genuine depth

 - Partner with support, sales, and product on developer-facing documentation and educational content

 - Stay plugged into the conversations happening on X, in newsletters, and at events, and make sure Linear has a voice in the ones that matter

What we’re looking for

 - Someone technical. You get code, understand how software gets built, and can talk about it credibly

 - Deep product intuition. You’re the kind of person who picks up a tool and immediately starts exploring what’s possible. You think in workflows and use cases rather than features

 - Comfortable on camera and on stage. You can demo a product, record a walkthrough, or speak at a conference without it feeling forced.

 - Twitter/X smart. You know how to use the platform, you understand what’s interesting to the people we’re trying to reach, and you can participate in the conversation with credibility

 - Curious and self-directed. You’re already finding the next interesting thing to talk about on your own, already following the right people and noticing the opportunities

 - Able to create video content end to end. You should be able to script, record, and edit a product walkthrough or demo without needing to hand it off to someone else

What we offer

We're a small, focused team that cares deeply about the quality of our work and the people we do it with. Here's what you can expect:

Linear is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law.

Developer Relations

At Linear, we're building the product development system for teams and agents. AI is fundamentally changing how software gets built, and we’re shaping the tools this new era requires.

Founded in 2019, Linear has become the platform of choice for more than 40,000 companies (including OpenAI, Coinbase, and Ramp) to plan, build, and ship their products. Today, our team is distributed across North America, Europe, and Australia, and we’re continuing to grow internationally. What unites us is relentless focus, fast execution, and a deep care for software craftsmanship.

Quality is our competitive advantage. Every member of our fully remote team is a maker at heart, caring deeply about the quality and feel of our work. While the industry optimizes for speed and metrics alone, we believe that craft and quality have lasting value. Quality creates gravity — it pulls people toward our team and product rather than requiring us to push. This philosophy drives everything we do, from product decisions to hiring choices.

For this role, we expect robust design skills, sharp product thinking, and the ability to engage in technical discussions. We work in small, autonomous project teams, where engineers are paired tightly with designers to explore ideas, build prototypes, deploy internal builds, and ultimately ship to customers. You will be a key element of projects from beginning to end.

Location & work mode

Linear is a remote-first company, with optional co-working offices in San Francisco, New York, and London. This role is open to candidates based in North America and Europe. You can work from anywhere within this region. We value deep focus and async collaboration, with intentional moments to connect in person through team off-sites, optional co-working, and occasional travel.

What you'll do

 - Pair closely with engineering and product to initiate and complete roadmap projects, no hand-offs

 - Spot opportunities to redesign or refine key screens and flows, as well as smaller quality issues and “paper cuts” as you use Linear

 - Create mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals to communicate ideas and describe their execution

 - Guide and inspire fellow designers through collaborative critique of work-in-progress

 - Use and improve our lightweight design system components

 - Help with hiring new teammates that can elevate our team and product

What we’re looking for

 - 7+ years experience designing software

 - Courage to ask questions, experiment, and advocate for what you feel is right

 - Humility to accept feedback, adapt your thinking, and iterate toward the best solution

 - Experience with prototyping in Figma (and beyond with tools like AI, HTML/CSS, Origami)

 - Ability to distill problems and feedback, then design clear, focused solutions

 - Effective written and verbal communication skills — much of our work is async

What we offer

We're a small, focused team that cares deeply about the quality of our work and the people we do it with. Here's what you can expect:

 - Competitive salary and equity

 - Employee-friendly equity terms including early exercise in the US and extended exercise windows

 - Daily meal and coffee stipend on every workday

 - Paid co-working space or desk

 - Health coverage (based on country requirements)

 - 5 weeks paid vacation, plus local statutory holidays

 - 4 months paid parental leave

 - Paid month off after 4 years & every 2 years thereafter

 - Regular team events and off-sites

 - Remote-first with no required commute

Today, we serve millions of users and thousands of businesses - from fast-growing startups to large enterprises like Deutsche Telekom and Meta. Our investors are some of the world's most prominent, including Andreessen Horowitz, ICONIQ Growth and Sequoia. Everything we do is the result of the creativity and commitment of our team - builders doing the best work of their lives. We are researchers, engineers, and operators. IOI medalists and ex-founders. If you want to work hard and create lasting positive impact, we want to hear from you.

HOW WE WORK

 - High-velocity: Rapid experimentation, lean autonomous teams, and minimal bureaucracy.

 - Impact not job titles: We don’t have job titles. Instead, it’s about the impact you have. No task is above or beneath you.

 - AI first: We use AI to move faster with higher-quality results. We do this across the whole company—from engineering to growth to operations.

 - Excellence everywhere: Everything we do should match the quality of our AI models.

 - Global team: We prioritize your talent, not your location.

WHAT WE OFFER

 - Innovative culture: You’ll be part of a generational opportunity to define the trajectory of AI, surrounded by a team pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

 - Growth paths: Joining ElevenLabs means joining a dynamic team with countless opportunities to drive impact - beyond your immediate role and responsibilities.

 - Learning & development: ElevenLabs proactively supports professional development through an annual discretionary stipend.

 - Annual company offsite: Each year, we bring the entire team together in a new location - past offsites have included Croatia and Italy.

 - Co-working: If you’re not located near one of our main hubs, we offer a monthly co-working stipend.

About the role

ElevenLabs is expanding globally, and some of our largest enterprise opportunities are won through complex procurement processes. We're building the RFP Engine to own how we compete in them — a new function at the heart of how ElevenLabs pursues its most strategic deals. As a Proposal Manager, you'll be one of its founding members, owning strategic pursuits in your region from qualification through submission: decoding what evaluators actually want, shaping the response strategy with account teams, coordinating input across sales, solutions engineering, legal, and security, and driving every submission to an exceptionally high bar — on time, every time.

You'll run pursuits through an AI-first system and help make it better with every cycle. Automation handles the mechanical work — first drafts, compliance checks, content retrieval — so your judgment goes where it matters: positioning, differentiation, and quality. When you spot work being repeated, you'll help systematise it, turning what you learn on each bid into templates, content, and process the whole company benefits from.

We think the right person has lived complex enterprise bids and knows the difference between a compliant response and a winning one. You write and edit exceptionally well, you're calm and decisive coordinating many contributors against a hard deadline, and you'd rather build the machine than crank the handle.

Requirements

 - A track record managing complex enterprise RFP or bid responses end-to-end, from qualification through submission, ideally at a technology company

 - A builder's approach to AI and automation: you use AI fluently in your own work, you've shipped internal tooling or workflows (or partnered closely with engineers to do so), and you treat repeated manual effort as a design flaw

 - Exceptional writing and editing: you turn technical and commercial input from many contributors into clear, compliant, persuasive responses

 - Strong project management under deadline pressure — running contributors, review cycles, and sign-offs across functions and timezones without dropping quality

 - Commercial instincts: you can read scoring criteria, spot what will differentiate a response, and flag pursuits that aren't worth the effort

Bonus: additional languages beyond English; experience with security or compliance questionnaires; a technical or pre-sales background.

Growth Potential

We believe in hiring the best talent in the world to look make an impact in the right role at the right time. At ElevenLabs, strong performance creates opportunities for growth. Here are some of the career paths you can expect after excelling in this role:

 - Leading regional proposals capacity as pursuit volume grows across markets

 - Specialising in bid strategy on our most strategic global pursuits

Location

We're hiring for this role in two regions. This role is remote-first and can be executed from any of our hub cities in EMEA. If you prefer, you can work from our growing number of offices, including in London, Dublin, Madrid or Warsaw.

We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability or other legally protected statuses.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to build ElevenLabs' public sector business across Europe. The Public Sector Partnerships Lead will identify and build relationships with government institutions across Europe, bridging the gap between government and our GTM team to drive adoption of ElevenLabs' products and grow government into a strong, durable revenue stream for the company. The role also involves building strategic partnerships with policymakers, industry associations, and coalitions — including at the EU institutional level — as well as monitoring regulatory developments and supporting policy campaigns and impact initiatives.

In this role, you will:

Drive government adoption and revenue (primary)

 - Identify government partnership opportunities across Europe — from healthcare and education to defence, transport, and other state-owned enterprises — and bridge the gap between government institutions and the GTM team to drive adoption and deployment of ElevenLabs' products.

 - Build and maintain a wide network of relationships across European government institutions — spanning national ministries, agencies, EU institutions, and public sector bodies — not limited to regulatory or policy counterparts.

 - Promote government adoption of ElevenLabs products and services in partnership with the GTM team.

Build strategic partnerships (secondary)

 - Build and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, regulators, industry associations, and civil society groups — at both the national and EU level.

 - Represent ElevenLabs at conferences and industry events, advancing the company's public policy goals.

Monitor and advise on policy (tertiary)

 - Lead ElevenLabs engagement with government bodies and officials across Europe, with a focus on AI governance, safety, copyright, privacy, transparency, data protection, competition, and/or digital rights.

 - Monitor, analyze, and advise on emerging regulations impacting the company — with particular attention to EU-level legislation (AI Act, GDPR, DSA/DMA) and its implementation across member states.

 - Support the development of internal policies by our Legal, Safety, Security, and other teams.

 - Provide strategic counsel to company leadership on regional policy trends and their business implications.

 - Define and implement policy campaigns and impact initiatives that advance company objectives.

Who you are:

 - You're genuinely interested in the future of AI and emerging technologies, bringing curiosity and enthusiasm to your role.

 - You stay up-to-date on AI regulation and industry trends, and are eager to apply this expertise to cutting-edge products.

 - You thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment, working cross-functionally with teams across the organization to support and scale a growing business.

 - You're comfortable working independently and handling ambiguity, excelling in situations where you must make informed decisions quickly.

 - You bring a proactive, solution-oriented approach to each project, focused on moving the business forward.

What you bring:

Primary requirements

 - 10+ years' experience in public and private sector (in-house, firm) roles, with a track record of building relationships with government that led to commercial or technology-adoption outcomes — not solely policy or regulatory roles.

 - A wide, current network of contacts spanning multiple European markets — across national ministries, agencies, and public sector bodies — as well as EU institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, Council). Depth in at least two major European markets is strongly preferred.

 - Experience identifying and opening doors for technology partnerships with government institutions is strongly preferred.

 - Experience navigating the multi-stakeholder landscape of EU policymaking — member state governments, EU institutions, and Brussels-based coalitions — is a significant plus.

Also required

 - Strong knowledge of the European AI policy landscape, including the EU AI Act, GDPR, DSA/DMA, and broader themes of AI governance, safety, copyright, privacy, transparency, data protection, and competition.

Public Sector Partnerships Lead - Europe

Who are we?

Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.

Join us!

About North:

North https://cohere.com/north is Cohere's cutting-edge AI workspace platform, designed to revolutionize the way enterprises utilize AI. It offers a secure and customizable environment, allowing companies to deploy AI while maintaining control over sensitive data. North integrates seamlessly with existing workflows, providing a trusted platform that connects AI agents with workplace tools and applications.

Why this role:

The Data Abstractions & Tools team is the group inside North responsible for how users bring their data into the platform and put it to work. We own the systems that let users upload, organize, and share their files and knowledge bases, the framework for extending agents with skills and third-party integrations, and the data-sync pipeline that connects enterprise data sources to North's agents.

North connects to a growing set of external tools and data sources so its agents can act on a user's real workflow. This role owns the integration pipeline end-to-end: adding new integrations to the platform, helping other engineers do the same, and becoming the owner of the process that makes that repeatable. You will also create the evals and tests that make sure those integrations work as expected and keep working as the platform evolves.

In this role, you will:

 - Build new integrations (tools) on the North agentic platform, and maintain the ones already in production.

 - Own the integration pipeline: the process for adding a new tool, from design to shipping to ongoing maintenance.

 - Help other engineers add integrations of their own, and raise the bar for how the team does it.

 - Create evals and tests to make sure integrations work as expected and alert on regressions.

 - Tune tool descriptions to improve performance based on feedback and evals.

 - Use AI actively in your work, while staying accountable for the quality and reliability of what you ship.

You may be a good fit if:

 - You have shipped production code and are comfortable building integrations against external APIs.

 - You have a background in evaluating agentic systems (ideal), or at minimum know what an eval is and are comfortable with prompt engineering and tool-description tuning.

 - You excel in fast-paced environments and can execute while priorities are a moving target.

 - You bring high agency: you learn quickly and drive change without waiting for perfect instructions.

 - You've owned things end-to-end before and care about the quality of what ships, not just that it shipped.

 - You enjoy helping other engineers succeed, not just shipping your own work.

As a Backend Engineer on Coder's Enterprise Experience team, you'll build the features that help large organizations run Coder in production with confidence. The team owns what administrators and operators need to run Coder well. - Build features that keep enterprise deployments secure, following the team's security practices.

 - Help investigate and resolve scalability bottlenecks under production-like load, from database access patterns to concurrency in coderd.

 - Help resolve backend issues surfaced by Coder operators and administrators.

 - Document the features you build so a reviewer and the next engineer do not have to decode them.

 - Participate in code reviews, contribute to RFC-style design discussions, and join the on-call rotation.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

 - 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.

 - Professional experience writing and shipping Go.

 - Working understanding of Go's concurrency model, including goroutines, channels, and the sync package.

 - Comfortable with SQL, schema changes, and writing migrations.

 - Experience investigating performance under real-world load, including debugging race conditions.

 - Experience building or operating distributed systems at a meaningful scale.

 - Curiosity about the latest developer tooling.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

We believe that the interview process should be transparent, consistent, and enjoyable. We value your time and hope to complete the interview process in two to four weeks, if schedules allow. Through your interviews, you will meet a mix of individual contributors, managers, and senior leaders.

AI USE DURING THE INTERVIEW PROCESS

As an AI company, Coder embraces the use of AI tools, and we want to be transparent about our expectations as you navigate our interview process.

Not permitted: Using AI assistance during conversational interviews.

Permitted: Using AI tooling for take-home assessments. Please flag where and to what extent it was used in your take-home. Your submission will not be penalized for using AI as long as it is done honestly.

OUR USE OF AI IN HIRING

We use AI tools to help manage our recruitment process efficiently and fairly. Specifically:

 - Ashby helps us review inbound applications by surfacing candidates who best match the role requirements we've defined. This tool does not make hiring decisions; it helps our team prioritize which applications to review first.

 - Granola takes notes during our interview calls so our team can focus on the conversation with you.

All hiring decisions are made by humans. Our team reviews applications, conducts interviews, and makes final selections. AI tools assist us but never replace human judgment, and these practices are conducted in compliance with applicable data protection, AI governance, and labor laws. Your data is not used to train AI models.

In accordance with New York City Local Law 144, an independent bias audit has been conducted on "Automated Employment Decision Tools"; results are available for Ashby https://www.ashbyhq.com/downloadables/ashby-bias-audit-08-2024.pdf.

If you're applying for a role at Coder and have questions about how we use AI in our process, or if you'd like to request information about the data we collect, please contact careers@coder.com.

Product Lead

ABOUT THIS ROLE

Hi, I’m Loren https://www.linkedin.com/in/lfoseid/, the Head of Strategic Customer Success here at Ashby. My team is dedicated to building deep, consultative partnerships within the Enterprise space.

Our Customer Success Team is passionate about shaping and scaling an exceptional upmarket customer experience across the Enterprise Segment. We’re thrilled to be hiring our next CSM in EMEA as we continue to grow the team.

In this role, you’ll partner with Ashby’s largest and most complex customers, focusing on driving product adoption, customer health, and long-term value. You’ll help shape how we support a diverse set of enterprise customers, from high-growth teams to public companies.

Ashby is powerful and highly configurable, requiring depth of understanding. You’ll develop strong product and domain expertise to help customers apply Ashby within their hiring workflows and achieve hiring excellence.

Role Requirements

 - You have a strong track record of customer success experience in B2B SaaS (at least five years), supporting enterprise customers on complex, configurable products, and driving enablement that improves product adoption and long-term customer outcomes.

 - You're excited to own a strategic book of enterprise customers ~20 strategic customers, exceeding $2m in total ARR. You consistently improve the quality of strategic partnerships through multi-threaded relationships and proactive ownership of customer health.

 - You have experience working closely with cross-functional partners across Sales, Product, Support, and Operations, aligning communication across stakeholder groups to deliver cohesive customer outcomes.

 - You love becoming a product and industry expert. You create ‘Ah ha!’ moments by tailoring configuration, driving product adoption, and crafting training to address a customer’s specific challenges so they achieve their intended business outcomes.

 - You’ve worked with technically complex products and show strong curiosity to explore details and understand how things work, enabling you to anticipate risk patterns and proactively support customers through evolving workflows and requirements.

You Should Apply If:

 - 📣 You communicate with precision and clarity. You can take something complex (like a multi-layered report or a nuanced workflow) and explain it simply and confidently to a range of stakeholders..

 - 🎧 You are a listener first. You seek to understand what customers actually need and then advocate for them internally to shape how Ashby evolves for enterprise use cases.

 - ⚙️You thrive in complexity. Ashby is powerful and highly configurable; you’re energized by learning a product with depth, and you can translate that knowledge into practical, creative solutions for your customers.

 - 🧑‍🏫 You’re excited to help shape a new segment. Our Strategic customer motion is still evolving; you’ll be iterating on playbooks, learning and sharing what works, and turning those insights into repeatable processes for the team.

 - 🔍 Your peers describe you as detail oriented. You send crisp follow-up emails, on time. You take pride in internal operations, including timely and accurate CRM updates.

 - 📊 You are always looking for ways to improve your work through data. You use signals and insights to reflect on what’s working, spot risks, and adjust your approach.

 - 👥You may have been a recruiter, hiring manager, or interviewer before. That experience helps you quickly connect Ashby’s workflows to real-world hiring problems (though it’s not required).

Why you shouldn’t apply:

 - You prefer managing a broad, high-volume book of business (if so, see our Mid-Market or Startup roles).

 - You're interested in managing customer accounts with infrequent and well-defined touchpoints, instead of adaptive, ongoing partnerships required for strategic partnerships.

 - You shine as an exclusively commercial CSM, motivated by variable compensation. While our team's north star metric is revenue retention, we focus on adoption and engagement as leading indicators. For renewal negotiation and upsell, we have a remarkable team of Contract Managers. As such, this role does not currently include variable pay, aligning with our strategy to hire product-oriented CSMs rather than adhering to the conventional Account Manager model.

 - You’re not excited by getting into the details. If diving into reporting nuances, workflow configuration, or hands-on change management with customers feels too granular or operational, this role likely isn’t the right fit.

Our interview process is thorough — we aim to ensure each person that joins the team is the right fit for Ashby and will provide ample information for you to assess if Ashby is the right fit for you. The process for this role is as follows:

 - Intro Call with Ashby Recruiting - 30 Minutes

 - Hiring Manager Interview - 45 Minutes

 - Final Round - 1 hour

   - Rather than a traditional panel interview with a large group, we structure our panel into two focused conversations. This gives you the opportunity to meet with multiple team members in a more conversational setting centered on specific topics, instead of a formal Q&A. You'll discuss how you approach problem solving, dive into a product complexity exercise, then wrap up with a quick closing call with the hiring manager.

BENEFITS

 - You’ll get the time to do things the right way; we put a lot of emphasis on high quality work and avoid quick hacks as much as possible.

 - 10-year exercise window for stock options. You shouldn’t feel pressure to purchase stock options if you leave Ashby —do it when you feel financially comfortable.

 - Unlimited PTO. Expect “Vacation?” in our one-on-one agenda until you start taking it 😅

 - Twelve weeks of fully paid family leave in the US. We plan to expand this to employees in other countries as situations arise.

 - Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget. Get what you need to be happy and productive!

 - $100/month education budget with more expensive items (like conferences) covered with manager approval.

 - Private medical insurance, dependent on your region.

Ashby provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Ashby is committed to a fair and transparent hiring process. We confirm that this advertisement is for an active, existing vacancy within our organization. Please be advised that we may use artificial intelligence-driven tools to assist our recruitment team in screening, assessing, and selecting candidates for this position.

You keep the team on track to ensure milestones are met. You work effectively in a remote-first setting, with the ability to travel <10% as needed for strategic customer engagements.

 - Team Leadership: You build and scale high-performing teams, empowering them to achieve outcomes that meet or exceed the high standards set by our team and company.

 - Customer Centricity: You are adept at understanding customer needs and tailoring implementations to meet their specific requirements. You build strong customer relationships by maintaining high levels of engagement and communication; you’re the customer’s proactive guide and advocate throughout the implementation period.

 - Bias for Action: You move work forward, translating ambiguity into clear paths, driving toward outcomes, and ensuring follow-through.

 - Regional Focus: You leverage your understanding of the EMEA market to define and evolve how implementations are delivered, ensuring our approach optimizes for regional considerations and scales without compromising quality.

 - Fluency with Enterprise Motions: You are comfortable operating in complex enterprise environments with multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and evolving requirements. You are experienced in navigating change management processes at scale and helping customers adapt to new systems and a refreshed approach.

 - Technical Proficiency: You have a solid understanding of a complex product (ideally Ashby) and its technical intricacies; you are technically curious and creative.

 - Critical Thinking & Solutions Orientation: You proactively address thematic customer opportunities and improve our processes accordingly. You don’t rely only on ‘I’ve seen this done,’ but instead think critically to solve problems.

 - Cross-functional Collaboration: You effectively partner with cross-functional stakeholders across Customer Success, Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations to align and define progress.

What Success Looks Like:

 - EMEA customers achieve time-to-value quickly and predictably

 - 📈 You are a problem solver. You thrive at solving complex challenges with innovative, scalable solutions.

 - ⚡️You know process matters. You are eager to improve processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and efficacy.

 - 🔍 Your peers describe you as detail-oriented and technically proficient. You take pride in internal operations.

 - 📊 You are data-driven. You use metrics and analytics to inform decisions and measure success.

 - 🌍 You are adaptable. You can navigate changes in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

You might not be a great fit if:

 - You prefer being an individual contributor.

 - You prefer an in-person role over remote.

 - You are less interested in customer-facing roles that require both technical and interpersonal skills.

 - You are accustomed to defining ideas and strategies, yet not responsible for their execution.

 - You prefer working with a simple product (such as a point solution).

 - You prefer exclusively to build (rather than build, iterate, optimize).

Senior Strategic Implementation Specialist - EMEA

We’re looking for a curious, rigorous, problem-hungry platform software engineer (who codes!) to carry the ball as we bring Ashby to the big leagues. Ashby builds software that lets talent teams build an efficient, delightful, respectful hiring process. Similarly, you’re an engineer who wants to build a “paved road” that excellent engineering teams can safely take to the moon and back.

We have notable customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our growth and retention metrics are best-in-class among our peers: we have tens of millions in ARR, growing >100% year over year, over 2500 customers, very low churn, and many years of runway. We’ll share more details once we meet, but you now probably have a good idea as to why we're hiring for this role 😅.

ABOUT THE ROLE AND HOW WE WORK

Hi 👋 I’m Colin https://uk.linkedin.com/in/colinhoweuk, Head of EMEA Engineering. I’ve spent a number of years leading engineering teams in startups, and that has always included being close to infrastructure teams - no matter what name they’ve worn (SRE, infrastructure, platform, etc). I’ve got my hands dirty building the initial infrastructure for startups and know the value a talented infrastructure engineer brings. The rigour, the discipline, the peace and quiet when everything just hums along.

Our infrastructure is in a good place for now. Nothing is static. Ashby continues to grow rapidly, putting strain on our existing infrastructure. We’re always looking to give our customers more powerful hiring software, and building new product features often requires new pieces of infrastructure.

Having herded plenty of snowflakeservers in the past, I’ve learned there’s a better way. I (and Ashby) place a lot of value on code-as-infrastructure. As a Platform Engineer at Ashby, you’ll get to dive into scaling problems, add new capabilities to our platform, and think about how our entire team interacts with infrastructure. All our own engineers own their projects end-to-end and ship with minimal oversight. We don’t put roadblocks to ensure security when common sense will do and we don’t build processes like change management boards around the lowest common denominator. But with great power comes great responsibility: we handle personal and confidential data about some of the biggest decisions we ever make at work. As we grow, more and bigger customers rely on us to be reliable and secure and how we operate internally will need to evolve.

We’re at an inflection point where our ability to scale and deliver a seamless experience has a make-or-break impact – we have some of the fastest growing companies using our platform every day to hire hundreds of people per month. We need someone like you to make good decisions, debug thorny issues, and build us a future-proof platform that can withstand this scale. Our small but mighty infrastructure team has set up a secure and simple environment (we don’t believe in spinning up a new service unless necessary!) for our growing product team to build in. That’s where you come in: you, too, will own projects end-to-end and have an impact on core parts of the Ashby developer and user experience. For instance, you could work on:

 - Optimize our homegrown ultra-dynamic recruiting DSL-to-SQL compiler https://www.loom.com/share/32c0cc3eedf2450fb66a901b76186ce4, and create tools to help developers do so

 - Create automated guardrails for the security and privacy of our customer data

 - Help our developers ship features fast through canary deploys, gradual rollouts and feature flags, while keeping complexity manageable and reducing downtime

 - Work with the business and the engineering team to define SLOs and implement the corresponding SLIs.

 - Ensure all communication with external services supports retries and circuit-breakers.

 - Implement the infrastructure to support an event-driven architecture and data warehouse.

We’re looking for someone who can build systems that an engineer would like to work with: mature and boring but open-minded and approachable. We have to balance reliability with flexibility. Software and its availability are now mission critical to almost every working professional. To be a platform engineer in today’s world, you have to be extremely comfortable evaluating risk, those you take and those others take.

WHAT WE’RE BUILDING

As engineers, we are used to tooling that makes us better at what we do. When we started Ashby, we saw the opposite with Talent Acquisition software. Recruiting teams were leveling up how they did their work, but instead of software meeting this new standard, it held them back.

Scheduling a final round is an excellent example. Recruiting teams wanted to schedule candidates faster, track interviewer preparation and quality, and do it with half the headcount. A recruiter needed to manually collect availability from the candidate, identify qualified interviewers, perform “Calendar Tetris” to find who is available to interview the candidate, schedule on the earliest date possible, and make any last-minute adjustments as availability changed. They must do this while considering the interview load on each individual and whether interviewers need to be trained and shadowing others. 🥵 TA software didn’t help.

As hiring managers, we know TA is a critical function, and as engineers, we know software can do better. So, we built and continue to build Ashby to give TA teams the highest standard of tooling. Software that’s intelligent and powerful. Software that provides insights into where they’re failing and automates or simplifies many of the tasks they’re underwater with. We want other functions and departments to be jealous of what TA teams can do with Ashby, and today they often are!

WHY YOU SHOULD OR SHOULDN’T APPLY

You should apply if:

 - You never stop. You get weirdly obsessed about a problem that doesn’t yet make sense, turn it every which way in your head until the explanation dawns. You’ll search every rock, inventory every clue, hunt every mismatch. We do that, too - together we’ll be armed with state-of-the-art monitoring tools and an impressive amount of data, and join you in the adventure.

 - You don’t take shortcuts. You’re speaking up for the future user, the edge case, the doomsday design. You know product engineers want to build it with you, and see them as allies, where you give them the power and knowledge to access greater things.

 - You’re someone who cares about what you do and the team you do it with, and want to work with others who do as well. You’ll be on interview panels choosing your next colleagues, and you’ll take that seriously. You only want to work with people who make you better, and want to make you better.

 - You’ve built infrastructure at a slightly later stage than Ashby is at - you know how to deal with millions of data points, have seen great (or not great) infrastructure make or break customer experience, and have automated everything from provisioning to monitoring and release process.

 - You’re a Swiss army knife (all nationalities welcome ;) ). You’ll get every hard problem the company faces. You’ll get to do infrastructure updates, security enforcements, database optimization, Kubernetes debugging, and digging through Typescript traces figuring out what doesn’t work. You probably don’t feel like an expert at at least some of that... and that appeals to you.

All that makes for a pretty specific kind of role, and the job isn’t to everyone’s tastes! You should not apply if:

 - You don’t want to make your own decisions on what is the best paved road to build for Ashby, and expect a lead or manager to make the final call on what that is. Our leads (and managers) give ample commentary and feedback on technical decisions and how they’re made, but you ship what you want to build and are accountable for it.

 - You hate SQL. We have a lot of features built around making the best out of data, and our platform engineers also sometimes dive into a gnarly report or advise engineers on a more performant data model to use.

 - You don’t want to code. Our Platform Engineers are some of our best software engineers and they are just as responsible for the application as the other engineering teams - albeit at a platform level. Reviewing code and submitting code changes will be part of your day to day.

 - Your primary mode of communicating best practices to engineers is live meetings. We’re a very async culture and written communication (and code) is how changes get made. As an Ashby Platform Engineer, you will need to share new tooling and best practices with engineers faster than your next meeting opportunity will take you.

 - You’ve never delivered a project, on your own, without someone prodding you for updates. We have no project or delivery managers to fill your calendar with busy work, but the flip side is you have to do your project management, seek the help you need to get unstuck and cut scope when it’s worthwhile

ENGINEERING CULTURE

Our engineering culture is motivated by Abhik https://www.linkedin.com/in/abhikpramanik/ and Benji https://www.linkedin.com/in/benjaminencz/’s (our co-founders) belief that a small talented team, given the right environment, can build high-quality software fast (and work regular hours!). We do it through:

 - Minimal process with ownership over decisions normally made by product and design

 - Natural collaboration and deliberate communication

 - Investing in tools and abstractions that give us leverage

 - Putting effort into building a diverse team

MINIMAL PROCESS & LOTS OF OWNERSHIP

The best engineers we’ve worked with delivered reliably magical outcomes. They took customer problems and relentlessly drove them to solutions that were not only successful but often brilliant and creative. While they did this with minimal oversight, stakeholders were never in the dark as to what was going on, and no setback was a surprise.

Traditional product-dev

Staff Platform Engineer - EU

Hi 👋🏾 I’m Abhik https://www.linkedin.com/in/abhikpramanik, Ashby's Co-Founder and VP of Engineering. We’re looking for a versatile, persistent product engineer who’s not afraid to set up reusable building blocks across the stack and advocate for the time and space to do so. At Ashby, all our engineers ship features end-to-end at a high pace. Example is the best leadership. We’ll give you the room to do your best work, and you'll be our guide! If that speaks to you, read on.

What Ashby gives you in return is the best of both early and growth-stage environments. The agency and no-nonsense of a seed startup: you write product specs, make product and design decisions, and build in an almost-no-meeting culture. While also the product-market fit and scale of a growth-stage startup: 100,000+ weekly active users who depend on your software and eagerly await your next feature.

We have notable customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our growth and retention metrics are best-in-class among our peers: we have tens of millions in ARR, growing >100% year over year, very low churn, and many years of runway. We’ll share more details once we meet.

You’ve probably seen this role posted before, and it’s because we’re always expanding the team (we’re on track to double Engineering this year). We’re bubbling with ideas for how to support Talent Acquisition with software, and we recently launched Talent Management products https://www.ashbyhq.com/add-ons/people-workflows to expand our total addressable market and become a company worth $60B+.

We read every application and aim to respond to yours within 3-4 days (often sooner).

ABOUT THE ROLE AND HOW WE WORK

Our engineering culture strives to recreate the environments where we did our best work as ICs – where we had the ownership and agency to impact our users with creative and innovative software.

I started my career building software for artists in the Visual Effects industry. It was a formative experience for me as a software engineer because success relied on my ability to be a product manager and designer. I talked to artists to understand their needs. I came up with ideas. I did industry research, designed interfaces, and prototyped ideas. I watched artists use what I built and decided what to tackle in the next iteration. No daily stand-ups, no t-shirt sizing, no planning meetings.

I studied computer science to solve problems, not tickets, and this felt exactly like that. I not only felt creative and fulfilled but the agency and ownership we were given as engineers powered an incredible amount of innovation.

Innovation came differently (or not at all) at technology startups beyond the seed stage, often through an engineer’s force of will and ability to push back against culture (rather than any encouragement from it). Engineering was narrowed to implementation and delivery, partly due to the influence of other departments and partly due to the influx of "Agile" processes like sprint planning. In those companies, I felt like a JIRA jockey.

At Ashby, we’re building an environment that is optimistic about what engineers can own and achieve. An environment that embraces innovative engineers, and, frankly, often stays out of their way. As a Product Engineer, you’ll take ownership over a large portion of one of our products and own projects end-to-end (wearing hats traditionally worn by product and design). You’ll research competitors, write product specs, make wireframes, and more. To ground it with examples, product engineers at Ashby have:

 - Designed and built automated interview scheduling. This feature automates scheduling by calculating possible times from a pool of interviewers and other constraints, and then presenting these times to the candidate for selection via our responsive web app. This solves the “Calendar Tetris” problem I talk about in "What We're Building."

 - Built a generalized declarative filter architecture that allows users to create complex filters for any record with a consistent UI and compile it to SQL in our backend. Many user-facing features use it.

 - Specced, designed, and implemented a feature that allows users to complete signing offers entirely within Ashby. This project involved talking to customers to understand their requirements, deciding what technologies to use, building a prototype, and working with other team members to integrate the final implementation into additional features.

WHAT WE’RE BUILDING

As engineers, we are used to tooling that makes us better at what we do. When we started Ashby, we saw the opposite with Talent Acquisition (TA) software.

As we’ve set the standard for excellence in TA software, HR teams have pulled us into solving their problems in areas like onboarding and performance management.

WHY YOU SHOULD OR SHOULDN’T APPLY

Software engineers come in many flavors, not all of which fit our model. Here are some things to help you decide if this fits you and what you’re looking for:

 - You’re not afraid to tackle any part of a technology stack. You do what’s necessary to successfully deliver a feature, whether writing frontend or choosing new infrastructure. We’ll provide a supportive environment to do it successfully (e.g., design system, SRE team).

 - You’ve tackled projects with a lot of product and technical ambiguity, and you thrive at the intersection of the two. We’re not building a simple CRUD app, and many of the challenges we tackle require you to use your knowledge of our customers to build powerful abstractions and flexibility in the system to solve a class of problems.

 - You know how to strike the right balance between speed and quality. Ashby wasn’t built quickly. We took four years to launch publicly because convincing customers to switch required a high-quality product. However, time isn’t infinite, especially for a startup, so we still move with urgency—we’ve built the equivalent of three or more VC-backed startups with a very small team.

 - You are ambitious and always looking to improve your skills. For most engineers, this role will give you more freedom and responsibilities than you’ve experienced in the past. To thrive (and level up), you’ll need to be open to feedback (and we give lots of it).

 - You’re an excellent collaborator and communicator. Ownership and freedom don’t mean you work in a vacuum. You’ll need to vet your decisions with the appropriate stakeholders, keep them up to date when necessary, and work with other engineers to get your projects across the finish line. Clear and concise communication helps a lot here!

 - You seek to create leverage in your work. The nature of software is that you can often automate or abstract what would be tedious, time-consuming work. Your impatience usually leads to new abstractions, tools to allow Support to debug before Engineering, new lint rules to prevent common bugs, etc.

Put another way, you shouldn’t apply if:

 - To you, a tech lead, staff, or principal engineer is someone who spends most of their time project managing or doing architecture reviews. Our most tenured engineers spend most of their time building, and we often trust them with our most challenging problems. While they lead product and technical areas and help other engineers plan their most challenging work, it’s not a requirement, nor do engineers need their sign-off.

 - You need company-driven process and structure to get your projects across the finish line. Sprint planning and well-defined project management processes are things you need or look to others to lead. You’d rather focus on the technical details and challenges.

 - You only want to do exciting work. We’re building a team of kind, collaborative folks. Customer issues and investigations are distributed across the team, including our high-level ICs.

 - You can get lost in the details. Once you start implementation, it can be hard to take a step back and think about the project as a whole. You like everything to be planned upfront.

 - You haven’t led or taken ownership of projects before. You’re used to working with tech leads and taking on tasks distributed by them.

 - You want to mentor earlier-career engineers. We rely on engineers owning their projects, so we need engineers with that experience. This requires the team to be reasonably tenured. More than 90% of the team would be considered Senior or above in the industry today, so mentorship opportunities are very limited.

ENGINEERING CULTURE

Our engineering culture is motivated by Benji’s (my Co-founder and CEO) and my belief that a small, talented team, given the right environment, can build high-quality software fast (and work regular hours!). We do it through:

 - Minim

Staff Software Engineer, Product Engineering - EU

Senior Software Engineer, Product Engineering - EU

Hi 👋 I’m Colin https://uk.linkedin.com/in/colinhoweuk, Director of Engineering, Europe. How do you feel about software engineers writing product specs, making product decisions, and not breaking down projects into individual tickets? If that sounds exciting (even if a bit scary), read on because I’m looking for an engineering manager to help us build a different type of engineering team and culture at Ashby.

To start, why do we need to be different? Time and again, I have witnessed engineers knowing what needs to be done yet being unable to get things done because of “the process” or because “more data is needed.” Some of the most effective projects have been skunkworks projects, where engineers have taken total ownership of a problem and driven it to completion. I want to normalize that at Ashby.

When we think about how these processes came about, we realize they carry a pessimistic mindset. They box people into smaller roles to minimize the chance of not meeting a certain standard. At Ashby. we’re building an environment that is optimistic about what engineers can own and achieve and embraces the innovative engineers (and frankly, often stays out of their way).

To accomplish this, our engineering leaders need to think deeply about individual performance, process, and culture - not running sprint planning or driving product and technical decisions. You’ll focus on building your team, their skills to thrive with the ownership they’re given, and an environment that empowers them to do their best work consistently, with little distraction. For junior EMs we try to stay within 6 direct reports. This enables them to spend time with our teams observing, correcting, praising, and, yes, coding. We like our managers to be hands-on while also making sure they’re not on the critical path.

We’ve already gathered an experienced, talented, and collaborative team https://www.ashbyhq.com/team of 25+ engineers. You’ll help me manage the growing team of engineers in Europe.

In addition to working with engineers you’ll also get to work on projects yourselves. Some examples of work our engineering leaders have done:

 - Provide feedback on product and technical specs to help engineers identify where to cut scope or improve quality. You don’t make the final decisions, but you’ll influence and coach ICs to reach the right ones.

 - Grow engineers to the point where they can take large, loosely defined projects, and deliver them with little intervention. They still ask for help when needed - the difference is that they’re driving.

 - Jump into our systems and code to debug a customer issue, ship a small bug fix, or improve our developer experience. Engineering leaders at Ashby are great engineers and enjoy keeping their skills up-to-date (while staying off the critical path).

 - Improve how we generate and simulate data in demo accounts. It’s a project off the critical path, but it helps you keep up-to-date on our codebase while immensely impacting the business, from Engineering to QA to Sales.

WHY BE A MANAGER?

I had two experiences early in my career that set me on my path. I had a great manager who asked tonnes of questions about the decisions I was making and coached me without me realizing it. And I had a terrible manager - being told to work harder after a week of 3am finishes was not what I needed as a young engineer. The stark difference between these two experiences motivated me to become a manager: I wanted every engineer I worked with to have the support I had in the best case.

Since then, as I’ve learned more, I’ve realized that I love the kind of problems I get to solve as a manager. Deeply complex problems with long-term impact both on the company and on people’s lives. One of my proudest achievements is creating a fully transparent pay system, and on the day it was revealed, everybody was happy with it. Nobody stormed out. By spending time thinking deeply about everybody’s pay and ensuring the mechanics of promotion were clear, I put the team in a place where they could see a peer was paid more than them, and it not be a problem.

Despite all this, I love being technical. I sometimes indulge myself and spend a morning writing some code to improve tests or provide better abstractions. If I couldn’t be a manager, I’d be super happy to be an IC.

I’m looking for someone who is passionate. Passionate about both management and being technical. Someone who spots a pattern amongst their team, figures out a better way for us to operate, and then builds the automation that powers it. I introduced a new process that enables engineers to merge 30% of PRs without a human review beforehand. I also built the automation that approves these PRs. I also built that automation with abstractions that make it easy for the engineers to improve the automation themselves.

It can be hard to find seasoned engineering leaders who haven’t succumbed to the status quo in some way or another. We're committed to giving all our people a total and utter lack of terrible managers, and that means we're willing to take a chance on someone early in their leadership journey who's courageous, principled, and has the drive to build themselves into a great leader who can say “Yah I know everyone is doing that, but we won't because...”

WHAT WE’RE BUILDING

As engineers, we are used to tooling that makes us better at what we do. When we started Ashby, we saw the opposite with Talent Acquisition (TA) software.

As we’ve set the standard for excellence in TA software, HR teams have pulled us into solving their problems in areas like onboarding and performance management.

WHY YOU SHOULD OR SHOULDN’T APPLY

Engineering leadership comes in many flavors, not all of which fit our model. I thought I’d outline some things I’m looking for to help you decide if this fits what you’re looking for:

 - You love being technical and can hold in-depth conversations with direct reports from infra to backend to frontend.

 - You enjoy management problems. We want people who get excited about driving people to be their best, giving difficult feedback, and building systems that make this easier

 - You hold your team to a high standard and don’t shy away from getting into the details and giving feedback, even to the best folks on your team.

 - You are an excellent and empathetic communicator. Facilitating change at both an individual and organization level requires understanding how to navigate the beliefs, opinions, and past experiences of engineers and figuring out how to both convince them of a new way of doing things while also leaving yourself open to feedback.

 - You know what exceptional engineers look like. You’ve thought deeply about what makes them tick, how to recruit them, and how to grow folks into them. I want to see depth here, the industry often regurgitates a vanilla description, but the reality is more nuanced.

 - You’re good at thinking about product, business, and maybe even design, but you’re not interested in calling the shots and are more interested in building a team that can make the best decisions without you.

 - You thrive in high-trust, high-autonomy environments. We're a young startup where leaders wear multiple hats, and you'll build your own (high-speed) on-ramp through developing strong feedback loops.

Put another way, you shouldn’t apply if:

 - You don’t enjoy coding or don’t find time to stay up-to-date on technology.

 - You’ve gotten into management because it was the only growth path available

 - You want to make all the product decisions instead of empowering your team to make those calls.

 - You're happy with a team of engineers that are predominantly early-career, mid-career, or don't thrive with ownership or autonomy. With enough guardrails, the team can get things done.

 - A staff or principal engineer to you is someone who spends most of their time project managing or doing architecture reviews.

 - You’re not optimistic or convinced that we can build a large engineering team that functions differently than the status quo. You think, at some size, common processes need to be implemented to ensure consistent product delivery (e.g., sprint planning, product managers writing in-depth specifications). You might not say it out loud, but you think, at some size, compromises have to be made for the sake of hiring numbers.

Senior Independent AI Engineer / Architect Remote | Americas, Europe, or Israel Most AI engineers can find work. Finding work worth doing is harder. A.Team is an invite-only network of senior AI engineers, ML engineers, and AI architects building production AI systems for startups, enterprises, and global companies. Since 2020, builders in the network have earned more than $200M working with companies including Lyft, Google X, HCA, Unilever, Sightful, D-ID, and others. The Work You'll join small teams solving real problems. Not demos. Not proof-of-concepts that never ship. Not another thin wrapper around an API. Recent work has included: AI-native products built from 0→1 Agent architectures and orchestration systems Enterprise AI deployments Retrieval, evaluation, and reliability infrastructure LLM-powered workflows and products Machine learning platforms operating at scale You'll work directly with founders, CTOs, and product leaders, helping shape both technical direction and execution. Senior Independent AI Engineer / Architect

You must be located in the Americas, Europe, or Israel to apply. A·Team is a VC-backed, stealth, application-only home on the internet for senior independent software builders to team up with hand-picked, high-growth companies on their next big thing. After talking with hundreds of independent engineers, designers, and product folks, we heard over and over that finding vetted, high-quality, consistent clients is hard, and projects are often too small to be rewarding. A·Team matches small teams of the most talented builders in the world with companies backed by a16z, YC, Softbank, General Catalyst, etc. on a contract basis for many of their most important initiatives. We quietly launched in May 2020, and have helped A·Teamers earn $85+ million since. As part of A·Team, you can expect: High-paying, meaningful missions with the most audacious companies sent your way; generally $90-$150+/hr, with vetted, fascinating clients doing work that matters. We're picky about who we partner with; new clients only come in via trusted referral. We've worked with Lyft, McGraw Hill, ClearCo, Pepsi, Walmart, the former CEO of Waze, the leading vaccine production software, several new unicorns we can't say here, and dozens of startups backed by a16z/YC/Softbank/Insight/Tiger/etc. Work alongside friends old & new: our niche is small/diverse product teams, since clients with larger budgets and higher-impact work tell us they want teams, not individuals. Of course, we keep friends together whenever we can. Full autonomy: say "no" to things that don't excite you. The most talented builders often juggle a few things at once, so there's never pressure to join an A·Team mission if you don't have the bandwidth. If we're no longer a fit, it's easy to leave or pause too. Small, curated, off-the-record gatherings: for conversations hard to have elsewhere. Long-term, we're creating micro-communities for the world's top builders to become friends around the things they care about. Keep 100% of what
