About the Role

Mozilla Foundation is a non-profit building a better technology future — powered by people, open by design, fueled by imagination.

We deliver people-first alternatives to today’s extractive systems. We build side by side with developers, innovators and advocates, united in the belief that a better technology future is not only possible — it’s ours to create.

Team

The Imagination & Strategic Growth (I&SG) team is an executive function within Mozilla Foundation that treats imagination as a core institutional capability for technology development. Working at the intersection of culture, strategy, and long-term growth, the team shapes how creative intelligence becomes new technology, partnerships, and sustained investment. I&SG stewards the Foundation's creative R&D program, Creative Futures, and the Fellowships program as flagship expressions of this work, while leading Mozilla Foundation’s strategic global engagements and co-designing new funds and collaborations.

Mozilla Foundation operates at the intersection of emerging technology governance, global policy, and the institutions and movements shaping what gets built and who benefits. The Head of Global and Strategic Intelligence is I&SG's dedicated intelligence position: synthesizing geopolitical and technology landscape signals, distilling incoming intelligence into organizational knowledge, while extending Mozilla's surface area in key corridors and contexts. This is a senior individual contributor role with a quiet profile and high autonomy, reporting directly to the VP.

Job responsibilities

Here are some projects you'll likely work on in your first 6 months:

  • Build and stabilize Mozilla Foundation’s field intelligence function, including landscape briefs, stakeholder maps, signal memos, and CRM practices.
  • Establish strong briefing and pre-briefing rhythms for the VP, ED, and senior leadership ahead of high-stakes engagements.
  • Produce actionable intelligence on shifts across emerging and frontier technology governance landscapes, with particular attention to where those shifts should influence Mozilla Foundation strategy.
  • Prepare Mozilla Foundation’s positioning, leadership readiness, and intelligence outcomes for major international convenings and multilateral moments.
  • Strengthen the systems and practices that ensure field relationships, intelligence, and strategic context accumulate as institutional knowledge rather than remaining fragmented across teams or engagements.

As the Head of Global and Strategic Intelligence at Mozilla, you will focus on…

Organizational Intelligence & Coordination — 35% of time

  • Serve as the connective intelligence layer across Mozilla Foundation’s work, tracking what is happening in the field, identifying where signals in one workstream should inform decisions in another, and keeping cross-programmatic work coherent and forward-looking.
  • Pre-brief the VP, ED, and, as relevant, senior leadership before high-stakes engagements, ensuring Mozilla Foundation enters critical rooms with full situational and contextual awareness.
  • Maintain Mozilla Foundation’s field intelligence function, including landscape briefs, stakeholder maps, signal memos, and CRM, keeping ecosystem movements and institutional positioning visible, usable, and compounding across the team.
  • Identify and shape where Mozilla Foundation’s work intersects with national and multilateral technology agendas, and pipeline the government and institutional partnerships that follow from those alignments.
  • Partner with Mozilla Foundation’s Technology Platforms team to design and maintain the intelligence infrastructure, including CRM-based network mapping, signal tracking dashboards, and knowledge management systems, that makes intelligence actionable.

Strategic Intelligence Synthesis — 30% of time

  • Track and synthesize shifts across the emerging and frontier technology governance landscape, including AI, data agency, digital infrastructure, and government industrial and development policy, and translate them into actionable intelligence for internal and external use.
  • Produce shareable intelligence artifacts, co-developed with Strategic Communications, that translate Mozilla Foundation’s field read into external positioning.
  • Ensure Mozilla Foundation’s field intelligence reflects global contexts, not just U.S. and European ecosystems, with particular attention to where the most relevant work in tech is happening outside mainstream visibility.

Global Moment Stewardship — 25% of time

  • Lead Mozilla Foundation’s preparation for and presence at major international convenings, including UNGA, flagship AI Summits, and multilateral institutional engagements, with sharp positioning, leadership readiness, and documented intelligence and positioning outcomes.
  • Ensure Mozilla Foundation leaves key moments having shifted a narrative, converted a key relationship, or surfaced intelligence that would not be visible from outside the room.

Institutional Memory — 10% of time

  • Build and maintain the knowledge management systems that ensure relevant field relationships, intelligence, and strategic context accumulate as organizational knowledge across the Foundation and pan-Mozilla entities, rather than disappearing into meeting notes.

Your Professional Profile:

  • 8+ years working at the intersection of technology and power, in policy, governance, geopolitical analysis, or institutional strategy, with a demonstrated ability to read fast-moving landscapes and turn them into actionable intelligence.
  • Deep command of emerging and frontier technology governance debates, including AI, platform regulation, data sovereignty, digital infrastructure, and government industrial and development policy, and a clear-eyed understanding of who holds power in these spaces and why.
  • Strong existing networks in at least one major policy corridor (Brussels, Geneva, London) and genuine reach into global majority contexts, including Sub-Saharan Africa, the Gulf, East Asia, and Latin America.
  • Fluency in institutional dynamics: knows how decisions actually get made inside governments, multilaterals, foundations, and technology organizations, and can navigate accordingly.
  • Experience operating as a trusted advisor to senior leadership before high-stakes engagements; has been in the room and knows what preparation actually requires.
  • Sharp written communication under pressure; produces briefings that are clear, opinionated, and useful.
  • Experience designing or building intelligence systems that integrate multiple data sources, working across technical platforms — including  Salesforce and dashboard or network mapping tools; a technical or developer background is a genuine advantage.

You are someone who:

  • Operates independently at a senior level and makes sound calls with incomplete information.
  • Builds trust quickly across programs, geographies, and seniority levels.
  • Thinks in systems and power structures, identifying what matters before it becomes obvious.
  • Brings deep command of global technology governance, philanthropic, and geopolitical ecosystems.
  • Has a genuine commitment to people-first technology and Mozilla’s mission.
