THE ROLE

We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to help manage our Content Platform team, which owns all of the tools relating to helping create, translate and publish our content. This role will:

  • Drive delivery on product goals through direct people management.
  • Partner with cross-functional colleagues in design, content, international, and product/program management.
  • Build and grow experts/leaders through feedback and attention to personal career development.
  • Collaborate with external partners to deliver contractual features.
  • Partner with architects and other engineering managers to make sure our product architecture, performance, and quality meet the needs of our users.
  • Empower engineers and support them with tools and processes to efficiently deliver amazing user experiences.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • At least 4 years of experience managing teams of software engineers.
  • Experience with Agile development and methodologies; web application architecture and development.
  • Experience with design systems, shared component libraries, and working with designers.
  • The ability to manage a diverse and distributed team of engineers from all backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Will be expected to be a “player-coach”, where coding is also in important aspect of the role (although not majority). You’ve been a Senior Backend, or Backend-leaning Fullstack Engineer in the past.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Passion for helping others succeed.
  • Motivated by the Khan Academy mission “to provide a free world-class education for anyone, anywhere."
  • Proven cross-cultural competency skills demonstrating self-awareness, awareness of other, and the ability to adopt inclusive perspectives, attitudes, and behaviors to drive inclusion and belonging throughout the organization.

Qualities we value in Engineering Management:

  • A strong point of view about products and user outcomes
  • Capable of navigating ambiguity, proactively seeking out the people/information you need to move projects forward
  • Passion for helping others succeed - not just your direct reports, but your peers as well

Great to have, but not required:

  • Experience using Generative AI / LLMs to build products. Knowledge of common prompt engineering techniques, current state of generative models, and engineering techniques such as RAG. The Content Platform team is actively building tools leveraging AI to scale and accelerate content creation, and to translate Khanmigo, our AI Tutor & Teaching Assistant, so experience with LLMs would be a strong bonus.
  • Experience building platforms which Product teams have leveraged and built upon, taking their needs into account when crafting your roadmap and vision for your surface area.

Note: Candidates with experience in any and all technologies. We don’t require experience in any particular language or tool. Our commitment to on-boarding and mentorship means you won’t be left in the dark as you learn new technologies.

The target salary range for this position is $181,990 - $204,739 USD / $245,925 - $276,666 CAD. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary offered will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate’s relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data.
